What You’ll Do on the Jobsite:


  • As a Painter and Allied Trade professional, you will apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to the interior and exterior of buildings, ensuring a durable and visually appealing surface.
  • You will create decorative finishes, including faux finishes like marbleizing or wood graining, adding artistic elements that enhance the design of a space.
  • Painters often repair and restore surfaces before painting, including patching holes, repairing cracks, and removing old paint, to create a smooth, even surface for the new coating.
  • In industrial settings, painters apply protective coatings to machinery, structures, and equipment, ensuring they resist corrosion, wear, and environmental damage.
  • Glaziers, as part of the allied trades, cut, fit, and install glass in windows, doors, and facades, working with a variety of glass types, including tempered, laminated, and decorative glass.

What You’ll Learn in the Apprenticeship Program:


  • As a Painter and Allied Trade apprentice, you will learn a wide range of painting and coating techniques, from basic brush and roller applications to advanced spray painting and decorative finishes, ensuring you can tackle any surface or project.
  • You will gain a hands-on experience in preparing various surfaces, including drywall, metal, and wood, learning how to clean, sand, prime, and treat them to ensure a flawless finish.
  • The program covers color theory, teaching you how to mix and match paints, choose the right finishes, and apply them in ways that enhance the aesthetic appeal of buildings and structures.
  • You will receive training in safety protocols and environmental regulations, including the safe handling of hazardous materials, proper ventilation, and waste disposal, to ensure a safe and responsible work environment.
  • You may specialize as a glazier and learn the specialized skills of cutting, fitting, and installing glass in windows, doors, and other architectural elements, mastering both aesthetic and functional aspects.
